What makes ISR different?

Infant Swimming Resource offers a survival swimming instruction method with survival and safety as the top priorities. Lessons are taught in a customized, one-on-one lesson environment, and foster the development of swimming and safety in infants and young children with ISR’s proprietary Self-Rescue™ program. With over 45 years of research and development, highly trained certified Instructors committed to safety, and a proven history of success, parents can rest assured that their children are receiving high quality training that will lead to a high level of skill retention. One of the main practical differences between ISR and Traditional swim lessons is the schedule and structure of the lesson. ISR’s unique schedule and structure has been developed by years of research to ensure the programs high level of effectiveness.

What will students learn?

What your child will learn depends on their age and developmental readiness, but in all cases, at minimum, your child will learn to roll onto his or her back to float, rest, and breathe, and to maintain this position until help arrives.

Children 6 - 12 Months Old

Generally speaking, children ages 6 months to 1 year learn the ISR Self-Rescue® skill of rolling onto their backs to float, rest and breathe as shown in the video left.  They learn to maintain this position until help arrives. This usually takes about 6-8 weeks for them to master.

Children 1-6 Years Old

Older, more mobile children will learn the full ISR Self-Rescue® sequence of swimming until they need air, rotating onto the back to float, then rolling back over to continue swimming. ISR students are taught to repeat this sequence until they reach the safety of the steps, side of the pool, or the shoreline. Children may take 6-8 weeks of lessons to master the swim-float-swim sequence.

What are lessons like?

Repetition and consistency are crucial elements of learning for young children.  Research shows that short, more frequent lessons result in higher retention. That is why Infant Swimming Resource’s proprietary Self-Rescue™ survival swimming program is a 6-8 week course, scheduled 5 days per week, Monday through Friday, for 10 minutes each day.
